Attaching a Shade Sail to Existing Structures

Attaching to Existing Structures

Many of our customers attach to existing sturdy structures like walls, buildings, and poles. The most important thing to remember when doing this is that shade sails do exert quite a bit of force on each connection point. Thus, it is crucial that the structure, and more specifically the structural element to which you are attaching, is sound. When connecting to a framed home, find out where your studs and rafters are before settling on where you will attach.

Tenshon can provide engineering services that will calculate the forces that will be exerted by the shade sail, and call out specifications on foundation and pole details. However, we do not engineer existing structures, so it is up to you or your structural engineer to determine whether your structure can hold strong against the forces generated by the shade sail.
