Swimming comes full circle!
My son is 2 1/2 now. He started swim lessons last year, but has really gotten into it this year. Surprisingly, he is being taught by the same woman who taught me how to swim over 30 years ago. She is still at it! Last year I visited with her about being in the sun all day and putting a shade sail over her pool. She loved the idea! This year she had the resources to do it. It has been wonderful for the kids and especially for her. Since she is in the water for 8 hours a day, throughout the summer, this has provided some excellent protection from the sun. Just another example as to how effective shade sails can be in a residential and quasi commercial environment.

West Mini Park Revisited
A little over a month ago I had mentioned a commercial job that we were working on for the City of Chandler, AZ. Our portion is now complete. Below is a picture of the shade sails being installed. When all of the grass is in and the park is completed I will post a final picture. We are very happy over all with the way it turned out. It really gives a great visual alternative to a hip structure.

It’s Getting Hot Out Here!
In Phoenix, Arizona we are now consistently over 100 degrees. Yes, it is the beginning of May. Along with this heat though, comes the opportunity to improve residential and commercial spaces with shade sails. We just finished up Pacana Park, in Maricopa, AZ. (See Pic below). We have also recently finished a few great residential projects, like the other one featured below.
The residential projects are always a special treat though. On Commercial jobs, our client is usually a contractor or architect. They will not ultimately use the structure we create. In residential applications, we are able to custom build shade sails that fit exactly into the vision and landscape of the end user, the home owner. There is a special satisfaction in creating a functional work of art and shade for a homeowner. At Tenshon we look forward to the chance to bring your vision into reality soon.

Shade Sails: Mario Brothers vs. Swimming
One of the amazing things about shade sails is their balance of form and function. Here in Arizona, like in many parts of the southwest United States, the sun starts to get brutal around March and does not let up until late September. While true Arizonans will say that it is a “dry heat,” hot is hot. Most all of us who live in the southwest savor the heat and generally good weather, but we still seek respite from the more intense aspects of the sun. Too often though, the options for shade are limited and cheap in quality. I hear from clients all of the time, who contact us for a shade sail, tell how many umbrellas they replace each year due to storm damage and generally sun decay. Those same clients are amazed at how well a shade sail endures in all types of climates, weather and sun light.
When I first came across a shade sail I was amazed at how seamlessly they fit into the residential environment. I especially love how well they work over and around pools. Growing up in Mesa, AZ we did not really pay attention to UV rays or their effects. After a good summer morning of playing Nintendo (Original NES of course), we were out in the pool for the remainder of the day.
Now that I have a family of my own, I think a little more about the damage the sun is doing. I also now understand why my parents never came swimming with us in the middle of the day. But with a shade sail over at least a part of your pool, suddenly you create a more temperate, protected environment; and for all of us who no longer live for mid-July, 2 PM swims, shade sails allow us to swim with a little more climatic abandon, like the days of old.

The Marvels of the Internet
Let me state the obvious. The internet is amazing. People from all around the world can peek into the personal lives and businesses of millions with the click of a mouse. As the weather has heated up here in Arizona and around the US, we have experienced increased traffic to our little corner of the internet, www.tenshon.com. Of course, if you are reading this, you are one of the many to experience our website. We sincerely appreciate the visit. We have tried to create an environment for education, ideas and the purchasing of shade sails. We spent a lot of time putting this site together and did it all for you, the visitor.
Like so many other home improvement products, shade sails are more than just a purchase, they are a process. Colors, sizes, shapes and placement must all be considered with this type of shade. We are here to help with all of this. We will never pressure you or push you into a purchase. At Tenshon we all have yards and outdoor spaces. We know the time that goes into making your outside environment the way you envision it. Take your time on our site and never hesitate to call. We will take as much time with you over the phone as you need. Furthermore, if there is a feature on our website you feel is missing or not functioning properly, please let us know. While the internet as a whole is a marvelous thing, we want our specific corner to be marvelously useful to you, our clients. Enjoy your spring!

Upcoming Projects
One of the purposes of this blog page will be to update our clients and the industry of upcoming and current projects. While there are a number of great projects on which we are currently working, there are two that I wanted to mention this evening. Both of these jobs are city parks. One of the great things about city parks is that we get to design and build these structures for the use of so many.
Pacana Park in Maricopa, AZ is receiving the addition of a new outdoor sports complex. Sports fields and seating are the main additions here. Tenshon will be providing some of the seating shade on this project.
West Mini Park in Chandler, AZ is a park revitalization project. The city of Chandler is updating this park with hardscape and landscape improvements and the addition of a new shade sail structure. Tenshon has been contracted to provide the unique shade sail structure on this job.

Attention Do-it-Yourselfers
I am a chronic do-it-yourselfer. At times, it drives my wife crazy. I have done plumbing, electrical, cabinetry, carpentry, new floors, new lawns & landscaping, the list goes on an on. In fact, I can’t remember the last time I hired someone to work on my house. There is certainly a time and place for hiring someone, (In truth probably 95% of the projects that I took on) but there is just something special about taking on a project yourself, from concept to completion. We respect that mindset at Tenshon. That is why we offer packages ranging from a simple standard shade sail, to a custom sail, to a complete kit with steel, hardware, and a sail.
The uniqueness of Tenshon though, is that we price our shade sails affordably, whether big or small. We don’t want to punish a do-it-yourselfer for ordering a small amount from us rather than the full kit, or having us do it for them. We had a couple customers this week comment on how cheap our shade sails where. They said “you can’t hardly be making money on that.” The truth, we barely do. We subscribe to the philosophy that one satisfied customer will bring many more friends, family and themselves back again and again. We rely on volume, history and time to be a successful business. Our products and services should keep people coming back, not our ability to close an unwilling customer on an overpriced product. That is how we like to be treated in business and so that is how we treat our customers.
